Pears got their start in Oregon back in 1847 when an Iowa native brought the fruit to the region and it was discovered how incredibly well they grow in the area due to Oregon’s climate and soil. In 2005, the Oregon legislature named the pear the state fruit after it became the top-selling tree fruit in the state. Today, Oregonians show their love for the fruit in myriad ways. Capri visits orchards, a distillery and a unique community event to learn how the pears continue to shape both culture and commerce in the Pacific northwest.
